Session 2 - Video 2 - Setting up a Decision

An example of using good communication to set up your decision. Ryan warns the captain what will happen if they infringe again, they do, and Ryan gives a yellow card. No-one can argue.

Video 3 - Positioning

Robbie steps back into the defender meaning a high tariff dive

Video 4 - Positioning

James takes a low one, biggest cheer of the day!

Video 5- Front Row Regualtions

Veryan knows his front row replacement regulations and can manage this. No panic, clear concise and more importantly correct.

Video 6 - No HIA

Dan again knows his regulations and checks with his 4th Official why the player is coming off. There is no HIA at this level so good team work as well.

Video 7 - Colour Clash

Are these shirts too alike, could you ask one team to change? Who, you need to know the competition regulations.

Video 8 - Advantage 1

Callum holds his arm too long, meaning he gets stuck and behind play.

Video 9 - Advantage 2

Tom plays advantage for a knock on and calls “over” as soon as the ball is kicked away. Advantage gained so good call.

Video 10 - Advantage 3

Jeremy plays advantage for a knock on and then calls “advantage over” as soon as ground is gained, again a good call.

Video 11 - Advantage 4

Again Jeremy plays advantage for a knock on but the side was never in control on the ball so correct to come back for the scrum.

Video 12 - Advantage 5

AR input for “Never on Side” so Alex plays penalty advantage. If within kicking range the only way advantage is over is for a score. Alex asks where the mark was, it was outside kicking range, so advantage is over.

Video 13 - Advantage 6

Jeremy plays a penalty advantage and the ball is kicked with no real advantage gained so Jeremy comes back for the penalty.

Video 15 - Advantage 8

Is Alex correct in law to give the option of the penalty or the scrum?

Video 16 - Advantage 9

Is the referee correct in playing advantage for foul play? If he blows, we do not get the superb try! Difficult one.

Video 14 - Advantage 7

Tony plays advantage for a knock on but the defenders are always under pressure. Just blow and give the scrum and then you do not get the flash point in goal.

Video 17 - Advantage 10

Clear advantage for knock on, attackers get a clear tactical and territorial advantage so “Advantage Over”. What about Martyn’s other communication? Do you always need to call “Advantage”?

Video 18 - Advantage 11

Alex plays advantage after an AR call. The maul fails legally so Alex makes sure he gets the right man and issues a yellow card.

Video 19 - Scoring 1

Great movement by Robbie to be in position to see the try.

Video 20 - Scoring 2

Why play advantage here? What better advantage is there than 7 points for the penalty try.

Video 21 - Foul Play 1

Don’t forget you do not just get foul play with opponents.

Video 31 - Offside in Front of the Kicker

All the green players who are in front of the kicker are offside as they are within 10m of the ball coming down, they must retreat out of the 10m area

Video 32 - Offside Within 10m

See how most of the black players retreat, do the others get involved?

Video 33 - Knock on into Ingoal

The red player knocks on over dead ball line. 5m scrum correct option and not 22.

Video 34 - Forward pass

Yes referee misses this, but the AR is no help running ahead of play to get into ingoal.

Video 35 - Good kick off

Kieran gets this right, starts his watch, checks all are ready, runs after ball well, and gets knock on.

Video 36 - Positioning

Is this the best place to stand? Can you see the ball and whether players are in front of the kick off? Also, Tom starts watch as players run up, no chance to check.

Video 37 - Kick off in Front of Line

Alex allows Ireland to kick off in front of the line gaining an unfair advantage.
