SEMI FINAL WEEKEND GOES OFF WITH A BANG
29 August:
DEVASTATING DE LA BURIES BLUES
LA TROBE PROMOTED AGAIN
PARADIANS, NOBS, JACKERS, COBRAS ALL ALIVE
De La Salle disposed of Uni Blues and fired a warning shot across the bows of both Collegians and Old Xaverians with a dramatic demonstration of power football in the Premier first semi final at Sportscover today.
While both teams committed first half errors, turning the ball over and missing relatively easy conversions, the game exploded in the third quarter. De La Salle jumped out to a 31 point lead but blues came back hard to get within a kick before the Dees powered away again. In all, sixteen goals were kicked for the stanza, which had the historians in the board room reaching for the record books. Twenty-five players kicked goals in the match.
La Trobe upset Div 3 minor premier St John’s in the second semi final and won promotion for the second successive year. The Trobers won by 14 points after the JOCs led at quarter time.
In Premier C, AJAX walloped Old Camberwell to advance to the preliminary final next Sunday against Beaumaris at Sandringham.
In Division 1, North Old Boys/St Pat’s got home by 14 points against Peninsula in the first semi-final. NOBs play Monash Blues in the Preliminary final next Saturday at St Bernard’s.
In Div 2, David Boundy booted eight goals as Old Paradians moved to the preliminary final next Sunday at Coburg by trouncing Old Westbourne by 38 points.
